Mr Khaw Boon Wan was re-elected as a Member of Parliament in May 2006. He represents the Sembawang GRC and is currently the Minister for Health.
In 2003, Mr Khaw participated in the successful battle against SARS. In 2005, he reformed MediShield and saved money for many patients with large hospital bills. When the NKF saga erupted, he played a critical role in restoring public confidence in the charities sector. In the Health Ministry, he has launched a number of initiatives to make quality healthcare affordable to all. His mission is to help Singaporeans live a long and healthy life.
Mr Khaw graduated in Australia under the Colombo Plan Scholarship. Since graduation, he has devoted his entire life to public service. In 1992, he became PM Goh's Principal Private Secretary. In 1995, he led the Ministry of Trade and Industry as its Permanent Secretary. In October 2001, he entered politics and was elected as a Member of Parliament in the Tanjong Pagar GRC.
Mr Khaw was born on 8 Dec 1952 in Malaysia. He is a Buddhist and married with three daughters.
